  1. I will choose Rizal because in all his letters to father pastells,Rizal revealed his anti catholic ideas wich he had acquired in europe and embitterment at his persecution by the bad friars .It is understandable why he has a bitter against the friars who commited certain abuses under the cloak of religion.according to rizal ,individual judgement is a gift from God and everybody should use it like a lantern to show the way and that self esteem,if moderated by judgement, saves man from unworthy acts.he also argued that he pursuit of truth may lie in different paths, and thus religions may vary, but they all lead to the light.father pastells tried his best to win back rizal to the fold of catholicism.NO matter how wise a man is he his argued, intelligence is limited, hence he need the guidance of GOd.this enteresting debate between two brillant polemicist ended inconclusively.rizal could not be convinced by pastells arguments so that he lived in dapitan beyond the pale of his mother church.IN spite of their religious differences ,rizals and pastells remained good friends, and rizal in grateful reciprocation, gave his jesuit opponent in debate in a bust of saint.paul wich he had made.

  6. I am on Rizal's side ,he is right when he said that "religions may vary, but they all lead to the light." After all,he still remained catholic although he did not subscribe to Pastell's religious interpretation about catholic dogmas.

I would take the side of Rizal because every body has the right to choose to believe or not to believe in religion or not to have religion at all. Rizal wanted to let people know what the bad friars had done to the Filipino people, to give them back justice. and if i were in the shoes of Rizal i would rather choose not to become a catholic because the church is ruled by the bad friars who hide behind the church. but in the end, "God is the true thing in this world that we can hold on to."

  10. For me, I will be on Rizal's side because even though Rizal revealed his anti Catholic ideas, he only wants to hit the friars who used religion not only as a shield but also a weapon, castle, fortress, armor, etc.He was forced to attack their false & superstitious religion in order to fight the enemy who hid himself behind it. I also admire Rizal because he state that individual judgment is a gift from God and everybody should use it.Although Rizal did not subscribe to Pastell's religious interpolation of catholic dogmas, he continued to be a catholic. He continued to hear mass at the catholic church of Dapitan and celebrate Christmas and other religious fiestas in the catholic way.

I’m on Jose Rizal’s side, first of all it is our right to choose whether what religious beliefs would we have, As long as there is God as part of our life. We can’t force people to believe what we have believed, because God has came into our lives in different ways..

  12. i'am on Jose Rizal side because his trying to fight the truth and by showing his anti-catholic. everyone of us had a good idea and we have a gift from GOD not to judge but to respect the ideas of others and we do have a different gift from our LORD Jesus Christ.

  13. On Rizal-Patells debate i would rather choose on Rizal side because regarding on the religion. This exchange of heated arguments revealed the anti-Christian. Rizal and his bitterness on the abuses performed by friars, doing such under the name of the sacred religion. Father Pastells tried his best to win Rizal back to the faith but fortunately or unfortunately, in vain. These series of debate ended inconclusively in which neither of them convinced the other of his judgments/arguments. According to Rizal, individual judgement is a gift from God and everybody should use it to show the way and self-esteem, moderated by judgment, saves from unworthy acts. And he also argued that the pursuit of truth that may lie in different paths. Despite of their religious differences, Rizal and Pastells remained good friends. Although Rizal did not subscribe to Pastells' religious interpretation of Catholic dogmas, he continued to be a Catholic.

  14. I am in agreement to Rizals stand since in all his letters to Father Pastells, he expressed his sadness over his persecution by the friars and eventually he learned Anti-Catholic ideas. Rizal's bitterness stemmed from the fact that the priests committed abuses under the guise of religion. He further believed that Judgment is a gift from God that will lead everyone to the right path. Each one should have judgment coupled with self-esteem in order to avoid committing mistakes. According to RIzal, that religions may vary and that truth may be found in different paths, but eventually will lead to the light. But Father Pastells argued to Rizal that man needs the guidance of God in order to triumph. The argument between the two Polemicist has never drawn into conclusion. But despite the fact that Father Pastells failed to convince Rizal of his argument, and in spite of their religious differences, still they remained as good friends. Rizal had even gifted Pastells with a bust of Saint Paul which he had made himself.

  15. I choose to be with our National hero Dr. Jose Rizal in the reason that Rizal revealed the truth about the Friars whom abuses their power to oppressed the poor Filipino people who suffered a lot from their hands because of their brutality and injustice.

  16. I' ll be on Rizal's side because in his letter Rizal revealed his anti-Catholic ideas which he had acquired in Europe and embitterment at his persicution by the bad friars. According to Rizal, individual judgement is a gift from God and everybody should use it like lantern to show the way and that self- esteem, and saves man from unworthy acts. He also argued that the pursuit of truth may lie in different paths.

  18. During his exile in dapitan Rizal had a long and scholarly debate with father pastells on religion. It started when father pastells sent him a book by sarda, with advice that the latter (RIZAL)should desist from his majaderas (folisness)in viewing religion from the prism of individual judgement and self esteem.

  19. The religious debate betwen Fr. Pastel and Jose Rizal may create confusion on Roman Catholic parishioner, but I have to side with Fr. Pastel, because he taught us to be strong enough to face all the trials and challenges in our lives which God has given us. Divine faith is the best weapon to overcome all obstacle and odds in time of crisis.
In fairness to Jose Rizal, we could not blamed him, because he was one of the victim of Spanish friars. They used their power as a priest to abused Rizal and his family that they suffered much and sometimes brought misfortune on their lives.

I must agree more to Father Pastells because I believe that even how intelligent a person is he need guidance from above and Rizal is misguided for he already forget that like any other thing the Catholic religion is being use by the friars for their own sake and attacking it is not doings of a Catholic individual. We all know that no one is perfect and every evil has an end and always a looser.

  21. I am on the side of Father Pastell. I chose him because I believe in his interpretation of Catholism. He said that , Divine faith supersedes everything, including reason, self-esteem, and individual judgement. And according to him,"No matter how wise a man is, his intelligence isn limited, hence, he needs the guidance of God".

  22. I am in favor of Rizal’s view in religion not because he is our National Hero but because he has the point. Father Pastell may had not experienced what Rizal, his family and his countrymen had gone through in his very own country. That is why he could not fully understand why Rizal attacks the bad friars in his writings. As quoted in his letter to Bluementritt, “ I want to hit the friars, but only friars who utilized religion not only as a shield, but also as a weapon, castle, fortress, etc.; I was forced to attack their false and supertitious religion in order to fight the enemy who hid himself behind it.” I also strongly agree that the pursuit of truth may lie in different paths, and thus “ religions may vary, but they all lead to the light.” We all have the right to criticize, but we must weigh things first, do good and avoid evil.

i will be on Pastells's side. He was right when he told Rizal "Divine faith supersedes everything, including reason, self-esteem, and individual judgement. No matter how wise a man is, his intteligence is limited, hence he needs a guidance of God." Through these words of Pastells, it answers everything. JUST FAITH in GOD and WE all will be saved.

  25. I will choose Rizal, because he considered a national hero of the Philippines because he fight for us against the Spaniards. I believe that no matter what happen Rizal is the famous and intelligent person and everyone has the right to choose there religion and if it is bad or good. Rizal give all of his best to become the Filipino people proud of him and he wants his country have a freedom and peace. Because Jose Rizal did not want to see his fellow people sacrificed in a difficult ways.
